Smacks is
a sweetened puffed wheat cereal.
Introduced in 1953 , the cereal has undergone several name changes, being known variously as Sugar Smacks, Smacks and Honey Smacks.
The cereal spokescharacter for Smacks is named Dig'Em - the little frog with a big voice.
Recipe for Smacks Crackle --
Ingredients:
1 Tbl Margarine or butter
1/2 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Molasses
1/4 cup Light corn syrup
1/2 cup Cocktail peanuts
6 cups Kellogg's Smacks cereal
Preparation Instructions:
1. Place margarine, sugar, molasses, and corn syrup in medium saucepan.
Cook over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble. Cook stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
2. Stir in peanuts and Kellogg's Smacks cereal; mix until thoroughly combined. Spread in thin layer on buttered baking sheet; cool. Break into bite-size pieces to serve. Store in tightly covered container.
Yield: about 12 cups
